She hears a knock on the door. “Who is it?”

She looks through the peephole.

“Do I let them in?” “If I let them in how far do I let them in?”

Is opening the door enough or should I take them to the Kitchen?

“How far is too far in?” She has suffered rejection before.

So, she struggles to allow people in.

The hurts are healing but the wall is not down yet.

She is slowly opening the door and peeking through the crack.

Her heart can do it. She can let others in and one day they will get

past the door.

Until then opening the door is a big step.

I am learning the balance between letting people in and shutting

people out.

My tendency is to be very guarded. It is a defense mechanism to

protect me.

When one gets hurt, they tend to not let anyone get past where the

hurt occurred.

So, if someone broke the door handle, the next person does not

get past the door.

This is because I tell myself if I don’t let them in they can’t hurt me.

The danger with living this way is one cannot build

lasting relationships if they are not willing to let people inside.

Therefore, healing is so important.

Today I am choosing to open the door, and if I get hurt, I will

choose to love anyway. This is the way of the

kingdom of God. Love one another as I have loved you. Step into

my living room and let’s get to know

each other. Hi, I am Shaudonna Bryant. Nice to meet you.
